On November 6, 2024, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) experienced a day of historic celebrations. In addition to the inauguration of the bust in honor of Cardinal Leme, located in front of the building bearing his name, the ceremony also marked the 50th anniversary of the priesthood of Dom Orani João Tempesta, O.Cist, the current Cardinal Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro.

The ceremony was attended by Cardinal Orani João Tempesta, O.Cist, Rector Fr. Anderson Pedroso, S.J., Fr. Roberto Dias, S.J., and Emeritus Professor Carlos José Pereira de Lucena. This important event brought together the academic and religious communities in a double celebration: recognizing the legacy of faith of Cardinal Leme and expressing gratitude for Dom Orani’s pastoral dedication to the Catholic Church.

The inauguration of the bust and the celebration of 50 years of priesthood highlight PUC-Rio’s commitment to the historical memory of the Church and to deepening the Christian faith in all its dimensions.
