EXTENSION COURSE IN PATHOLOGY

 

Description
The Theology Department of PUC-Rio, in partnership with the Central Coordination of Extension (CCE) of PUC-Rio, offers the Extension Course in Pathrology in online modality.

 

Duration 
The course lasts 6 months.

 

Grade or characteristic
Distance Learning University Extension Course in Patrology.

 

Objectives
To reinforce the continuing interest for study and the need that the Church directs that we always return to the Christian sources for a greater understanding of the sacred mystery.

 

Menu
The course will deepen, in general and introductory lines, the themes that have already been studied in the Theology at a Distance Course, but in a more profound way, according to the Thought of the Fathers of the Church.
The study is an initiation with handouts prepared by prof. André Luiz Rodrigues da Silva, following the most recent research in the field of Theology, accompanied by complementary bibliography.

 

Course Theme
1. The Fathers of the Church. Terminology. Chronology. Languages. Christian Sources. Geography. The Fathers of the Church in the documents of the Church;
2. The Apostolic Fathers: Clement of Rome; The Shepherd of Hermas; Ignatius of Antioch; Polycarp of Smyrna;
3. Second and Third Century: Justin of Rome; Irenaeus of Lyons; Tertullian; Cornelius and Cyprian; Clement of Alexandria and Origen;
4. From Nicea to Constantinople: Arius, Athanasius, Eunomius, Pope Liberius, The Cappadocian Fathers;
5. The Latin Literature: St. Augustine; St. Ambrose; monastic life in the Latin Church.

 

Methodology
The course uses the following methodological procedures:

• Supporting content for study through texts for reading and reflection;
• Opening seminars for each theme of the course;
• Personal study for better reflection of the content
• Weekly meetings with the class tutor at the chosen support center;
• Two (2) evaluative works along the course, where the student will receive the help of the tutor;
• Support from a course supervisor as a facilitator of the students' integration into the PUC-Rio community.

 

Pre-Requirements
Higher Education (complete or undergraduate).

 

Evaluation
The result of the evaluation will be expressed in grades, on a scale of 0 (zero) to 10 (ten), with a minimum final grade of five (5.0). The overall grade is calculated according to the weights given to the different proposed activities.
It is important to note the importance of meeting the deadlines required in the course.

Certificate
The student who satisfactorily fulfills the requirements of the course and passes the exam will be entitled to a certificate issued by CCE/PUC-Rio as an Extension Course at the end.
